THE DISCOVERING UMBRIA PROJECT : UMBRIA BY UMBRIANS
Discovering Umbria - Wine Food & Outdoor Experiences is a work-in-progress project by Alessandra and Leonardo Mallozzi, Umbrians, born in the Medieval town of Todi, where they currently live and work.
Sister and brother, they share the common passion for their home-land. Alessandra and Leonardo are both wine and food experts, free-lance Sommeliers FISAR (Federazione Italiana Sommelier Albergatori Ristoratori), Extra Virgin Olive Oil Tasters and HACCP Certified.
Leonardo is also a licensed Hiking Guide for Umbria and Italy - Guida Ambientale Escursionistica AIGAE (Associazione Italiana Guide Ambientali Escursionistiche).
Thanks to the quality of our offer based on the Slow Food Movement Guidelines and Sustainable Tourism, in 2010 the Discovering Umbria project won the Italian Responsible Tourism Award.
"In these years we've been recommended and mentioned on many important magazines and blogs: The Telegraph Travel, USAToday, BBC Travel Lonely Planet, Sidney Morning Herald, Italy Magazine and more. We have offered our expertise to international Personal and Executive Chefs, important wine and food companies/clubs, such as the American restaurant chain Olive Garden and the prestigious British Wine&Food Society.
As free-lance Sommeliers we have also worked for many important Italian and Umbrian wine festivals and food events like: Espresso Wine Guidebook, Slow Wine Guidebook, Luca Maroni - I Migliori Vini Italiani, Orvieto 4Ever Andrea Bocelli Concert, Umbria Jazz Winter, Consorzio Vini Orvieto, Calici di Stelle, Cantine Aperte, Orvieto con Gusto, Todi Wine Show, Primi d'Italia, Champagne & Sparkling Wines Challenge Euposia, Terrawine Festival.
We offer English language assistance and all our fifteen-year know-how in Tourism and Gastronomy.
Our day visits to wineries and farms are led by us as Certified Sommeliers.
Hiking activities are carefully planned and guided by Leonardo - Licensed Hiking Guide AIGAE
For guided art tours we cooperate with authorized regional tour guides, who are part of our network of local professionals, as well as for any eventual package holiday, where we cooperate with specialized travel agencies according to the regional and national regulations. Accommodation, if required, are provided directly by our partnered local real estate agencies".
Alessandra and Leonardo own and manage a little olive orchard located in the countryside of Todi, belonging to their family since the early 90's. From the 80 olive trees (70-30 years old) they make their own Extra Virgin Olive Oil, completely organic for their families, friends and special guests.
GREEN & SUSTAINABLE TOURISM:
SUPPORT LOCAL FARMERS, RESPECT THE ENVIRONMENT
Our work is to introduce you to the best wineries, olive oil and food producers in Umbria. We have said #no to any direct and indirect profit on the wine/food products that you may purchase at our partnered farms and wineries as well as on the wine/food provided in the tasting.
To support the local economy, we have involved in our project small family-run farms, wineries, olive oil mills and food makers producing high quality, organic food in Umbria. Through the Discovering Umbria project you'll have the possibility to meet personally the local farmers and, in case, to buy directly your favourite grown&made in Umbria food at a fair price thanks to the direct relation between the local producer and the customer. Supporting local farmers helps Umbrian farmers to continue to grow fresh, good and sustainable food for you and for the next generation.
