2019 reloaded >> ready for 2020!

2019: another unforgettable year, rich of important events in the region, full of fun and great memories for us.
Time to celebrate it and to start planning our 2020. A brief end-of-the-year sum-up on what happened in this long tour season and what’s coming next!

After many years spent in projects and European fund raising, on September 14, 2019 the Municipality of Todi finally unveiled the Beverly Pepper Park, entirely dedicated to the +90yrs old American-born sculptor. Pepper known worldwide for her monumental works, site specific and land art has been living in our Todi for about 50 years.
A new fantastic attraction for the visitors, a place to walk and relax finally given back to the locals.
Parco della Rocca – Beverly Pepper is located in the heart of Todi historic centre, a urban park unique in Umbria. The entrance of the itinerary is close to the temple of Santa Maria della Consolazione, to reach the top of the hill at San Fortunato church, close to the iconic Medievai towerbell.

Grape harvest and new olive oil: a challenging year full of great surprises
2019 has been another challenging year for our farmers. Due to the long rainy and cold Spring, the beginning of the season was very demanding, especially for the olive trees whose flowers bloom at the end of May, beginning of June. Despite the exceptional weather, which has affected the quantity of flowers and consequently the quantity of fruits to be harvested, the result was an extraordinary olive oil. The new EVOO 2019 already tasted by some lucky travelers, will be available for all the tour season 2020, fresh and fragrant as always.

As far as the grape harvest the sun in August and September dried all the humidity out, allowing a perfect ripening of the bunches. The technical tastings after the first fermentations show a very promising vintage. We’ll see the early results around March 2020 with Orvieto Classico and Grechetto, prime white wines to be released in the region.

The season has gone very well also for the Discovering Umbria Team, thanks,  first of all, to all the travelers who chose us to discover this beautiful region, our partners at the farms and wineries and all the people who trusted in us.

A very special grazie goes to Eu Chai Huang, CEO at Ergo: Travel Singapore, who has always strongly believed in the potential of Umbria as a new destination for his market since our very first meet up long time ago. After 9 years of “stubborness” from both sides, last May, for the first time Eu Chai brought here a group of travelers who stayed entirely in our region for 10 days visiting all the highlights of Umbria and experiencing its great food and products. The tour has been carefully planned and led together with our friends and partners for the art & history guided visits Todiguide.com.

Being also freelance certified Sommeliers, we had the honor to work in several important wine & food events with our colleagues at FISAR Delegazione Orvieto, such us Orvieto diVino, the incredible happening organized in June inside San Patrizio’s Well for the launching of the new experimental Orvieto Sparkling Spumante; Todi Wine Show, where we led for the third time the virtual “Wine Tour of Umbria” for locals and tourists; Primi d’Italia in Foligno, of one of most popular pasta festival of Italy, ending our year at the prestigious Euposia Champagne and Sparkling wines Challenge, offering our wine service to an International jury composed by notable journalists, winemakers and MWs, panel led by the World President of Oenologists Riccardo Cotarella.

Fast forward 2020: we’re planning, working, studying…
What’s new on Discovering Umbria – Wine & Food Experiences?
Following another successful season, we’ve been investing our Winter working on new itineraries and offers, which will be ready after the Christmas Holidays. The improving will involve more options on cooking classes and another completely new tour service for those who love, not only Food & Wine, but also Nature & Outdoor Adventures.
Leonardo, in particular, is working very hard on it, spending many weekends on the Apennines…
